Default Oil

So, in my manual I read to use 5W30 oil, when I went to change my oil today the cap says 5W20… is it a big deal really that I used the 5W30? From what I read it’s slightly thicker but shouldn’t make any difference. Just looking to ease my mind now…

This, and can actually help as it has more wear protection.

But yeah, kinda matters what engine you have.

I am assuming that your truck is a 5.0.. mine is and I use 5w30 full synthetic. told the dealer that's what I want and they put it in with no argument. I noticed the 2021's call for 5w30 now. all the turbo engines call for 5w30.

You're probably reading the ecoboost engine oil a0ec in the manual, it's factory spec 5w20, but I'd put 5w30 in it all day long.
I put 5w30 in my 2012 5.0.

Are you reading the correct page in the owner's manual which has large sections unique to each of about engines? Some spec 5W-20 and others 5W-30.

If 5W-20 is specified then 5W-30 is not better, only "acceptable in an emergency."

In mid-1980's a joint paper written by Ford and GM engineers in the SAE Journal totally changed the understanding of how motor oil keeps metal parts separated. When 10W-40 was the standard prescription they detailed how 20 weight could do a better job. If your main bearings are designed for 20 then you want 20.

Because it's been redesigned with cylinder deactivation. It's not the same 5.0 of years past.

It's just the next iteration of the coyote, the 4th gen.
Some nice upgrades and changes but nothing big other than them no longer needing the fuel savings from 5w20 because cylinder deactivation gets it for them instead.

Remember that in Aus, they "re-spec'd" the 2016+ 5.0 from the original 5w20 to a 5w30 in the 3rd revision of the owners manual.
