Default OEM Ford Bed Extender

Hey Everyone -

I purchased the Ford OEM Bed Extender for my 2017 F-150 and it's harder to install than expected.

I'm having an issue with the middle screw (the only screw) on each side while securing it in. I've literally turned this thing with so much torque but it won't screw all the way in.

It probably wiggles in and out about 1/8 inch but no matter what I do I cannot get it in all the way.

Any advice from anyone else who has installed one? It's happening on both sides so I know it's not the screw.

I took these screenshots from a YouTube video because it's the same exact area/bed extender I have. It's like it won't get past the last bit of the Blue Loctite (which I tried to scrape off on one screw).

Any my advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If you have a spray-in liner it is hard to start those screws! I tapped on the screws to get them started and then , with great effort, screwed them in.
Some day when I'm inspired I'll take them back out and clean up the threads.

That's the thing. It's super easy until the last couple of turns. For some reason I can't get that last twist pr two to get it in b

I ended up using a 18" breaker bar to get them the last 1/8 or so. They go in very hard.

Thanks! So no wiggle in and out when you were done?

Going to my dads to see if he has a better torque wrench.

Borrowed my neighbors breaker bar and finished tightening it last night!

Thanks for the advice.

Glad I read this. I figured I cross threaded my screws. Like everyone else mine were a PITA to screw in. I have a little wiggle, but nothing too bad. I figured if I titghtened them anymore I'd risk stripping the head of the bolt!

On the Ford parts web site it says it's
9L3Z-99286A40-C
with a suggested retail of $365

It also says it's "easy to install." Nothing about breaker bars.
