It's normal. Be glad it wasn't towed/hauled from the plant in a winter storm with lots of salt spray.

It may be normal now, but my previous Fords were not this way. Just another way to show they no longer give a darn.

Even my '80's Fords were rust free.

Surface rust and it's normal. If it makes you feel better go to any railroad track and look at the surface rust on the rails and remember they still hold the weight of a loaded freight train.

Default Rust

All parts that are exposed to salt water and are not protected rust. I have found in northern salt/snow areas that all the gussets for body mounts and cv axles get really bad. I am not sure why they don’t spray all the steel with POR 15 or some anti rust paints. They really work and don’t cost that much and truly stop the rust. I am not a salesman and have nothing to gain but POR 15 can be sprayed with salt water and will not rust. It will not degrade for years but must be kept out of direct sunlight. The frames on 2015/2016 are not protected. I can’t speak for any newer than that..

Another new buyer concerned about harmless surface rust on their expensive truck!
Unprotected iron/steel rusts and will get worse over the years especially if you live in the snow belt.

OPer, if you're overly concerned about rust, there are numerous DIY rust protectorents out their.
Some of which can even be applied professionally.
