Default Normal, not normal?

Here is a pic for reference...

the top is the tail pipe from my 15 with the 3.5na and bottom is my 18 5.0. Does it look normal? It lost about a half quart in the first 4000km. The truck was delivered between the dots on dipstick and before my first oil change (@4500km) i added almost a quart putting the level between 3/4 of the way up the hash marks and the full dot. I'm only at around 5600km so I dont really know if I have a issue here. I do get a lot of white smoke (what I hope is condensation) on cold starts. During the week I have a very short commute to work( less than 5km one way). I always let the temp needle move before I drive her. Usually by the time I remote start and I'm ready to leave its idled 5 to 10 min. I always take her for a good run on the weekends and I like to get on her a few times. So in short tell me I'm not crazy and everything's fine lol, unless you guys think I actually have a problem.

Your tailpipe in your 18 is extremely clean...that's about all.

Looks good to me. And kudo's to you for taking it out for a longer run on the weekends. It's important to get the water out of the system that has accumulated over your short commute.

well your exhaust won't rust out on you.

serious note the oil use is something that comes up on most of the engines from time to time and often has to do with letting the rings wear in right. At 10K miles if still doing it I would worry more. If by then the oil consumption doesn't tapper off then I would keep monitoring it and maybe checkout the extended warranty - or trade in early before the factory warranty let out.

The top pic does not look stock, but the bottom looks just like my 18" 5.0 at 20,000 miles

Thanks guys, all opinions are appreciated. I think I would definitely look crazy looking in other people's tailpipes lmao. I'm hoping the little oil she burned off is just from the brake in period. I did opt for the extended warranty already lol. I'm glad I did tho, not just because of all the little quirks the 5.0/10speed that have popped up but it also gave me a really good 10 day test drive of a second gen 3.5 eco/10 speed while I had all my OCD warranty issues fixed on delivery lol. I hope to keep this truck a long long time.

Top pic is a chrome MBRP tip and bottom is a black go rhino, the soot would drive me insane on a chrome tip lol. Had to axe the idea of cleaning the tip off daily asap lol.

The black soot isn't oil. It's due to fuel mixture. My 18 5.0 with 7K miles is using about a qt every 5K. My 18 Corvette tailpipe looks the same and uses no oil. Direct injection engines seem to be the culprit.
Some 5.0's use oil some don't. You should look at the Mustang forums with the 5.0. Hoping mine stops soon.

FWIW, my 13 GT 5.0 used 2 quarts before the first oil change, and none after that. My 18" F150 5.0 used almost 3 quarts before the first oil change, as did my son's 18" F150 5.0 but after the first oil change it has not used any
