Very negligible improvements in fuel economy. Take into account increased prices and I don't see a big advantage.

Thanks for the link to a very interesting article.

What I found most interesting was that the 2.7L EcoB has less CO2 emissions than the RAM EcoD because it's fundamentally a more efficient engine.

Diesel has higher energy density, which translates into higher carbon density per gallon. So even though you are going more miles per gallon with diesel, you end up burning more g carbon per mile (in the 2.7 EcoB vs EcoD comparison).

The only issue I have with this analysis is that diesel owners have long complained that the EPA protocol doesn't give realistic numbers for diesel engines, especially on highway runs.

And diesels get even better mileage than equivalent gas engines when heavily loaded as when towing. So the real world CO2 difference, especially when towing, is probably less than he reports.
