Default New Truck - Ecoboost 3.5 or 5.0

I'm looking at a 2016 4x4 with either the 3.5 Ecoboost or the 5.0 V8.

I won't ever tow anything so that doesn't matter. Any real diff in MPG or performance?

Judging by the little info you've given, saying you don't tow points to the 5.0 (or even 2.7 if you're looking for gas mileage)

Both are good engines. I had the 5.0 in a previous truck and had rotten luck with it. I personally prefer the low end rush and reliability of the 3.5 Eco, but you really can't go wrong with either these days. Shop for a truck with the right options you want and drive both engines, you`ll be happy with either.

2.7 would be OK but there aren't a lot of 4x4 trucks with the 2.7 and some of the options I want.

Go drive them, asking others does not help or matter. My last two trucks have been eco's, I don't think I will ever buy another v8, unless it was boosted. You can always order a truck so you get exactly what you want.

Drive them. Do you like the sound of a V8, will you want to put on an aftermarket exhaust that rumbles... If so don't get an Ecoboost.

I'm not sure this has ever been asked on this forum.

Let me search...

Oh yes, about 1,000,000 times.

Welcome to the forum. You've stumbled upon a touchy topic. This is as bad as the election debates going on. Search the forum and they're will be 4 billion threads on this. Not picking on you by any means just letting you know there's a ton of info on here already. Good luck in your choice.

I have a 2011 Eco but these last few days I drove a 2016 5.0 for a loaner while my truck was in the shop. As much as I love my Eco, my next truck will be the 5.0. The sound of it while getting on the gas was great and the power was pretty damn good. It's not as quick as the 3.5, but still moves well. I also worry some about the turbos lasting.
