New TPMS Question
Ok, so I've searched high and low to try and figure out what's going on and can't find a reliable answer. Here's my situation:
- I purchased a set of brand new take-off wheels complete w/ factory TPMS for my snow tires
- Got the tires mounted on the truck
- Put the summer set on my back patio (about 50' from my driveway)
- Truck still seems to read the summer set (I get pressure readings)
- I've tried the on/off/brake/etc. relearn procedure with the winter tires (I've also got the TPMS tool with the green button) and the truck won't pair with the winter tires.
- I took a fairly long drive over the weekend and I did (finally) get a TPMS warning/error message but it went away once I was back in my driveway and I restarted the truck.
- Is it possible the summer wheels are still broadcasting a TPMS signal? They've been stacked/stationary for a few days without moving so I would assume the sensors have gone to sleep by now.
- If my truck is getting TPMS signals (from somewhere, indicated by pressures shown on the information screen) can I not re-pair with the winter set?
- Do I need to wait for the TPMS error (and no pressures indicated) before trying to pair my winter set?
- The TPMS on the take-offs were verified to be working.
If they're factory sensors for 2015+, then no pairing or tools are required. If they're from 2014 or earlier, it won't work.
I have OEM sensors on steel rims for my winter tires. All I do is swap and drive. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes, sometimes 10-15, but it always picks up the new sensors without having to do anything special. I bought my winter set in 2015 when I bought the truck so I've swapped 6 times so far and I didn't have to do anything special when swapping.
Are you sure the sensors are for 2015+? If it's not picking up any sensors after a while, the dash should change to show all double dashes -- after not getting a signal for a while. Usually my PSI numbers just change to show the new sensors, but there was one time where it changed to dashes for a couple minutes and then showed the new PSI readings.

Yes, they're the exact same wheels that are on there now (the sport appearance package ones). I guess I could let air out of one of the winter tires and see if it changes on the dash display but the fact that I can't re-train the location using the winter wheels tells me they aren't what the truck is picking up.
Well, if the pressure readings came back, then it's the new sensors. There's no way the truck is picking up readings from the summers from 50 feet away, besides, they would be in sleep mode anyways.
