Default New frame vs sectioning.

I saw this at my local Ford house. Online search says it’s a front frame section for a 2016 F150. I guess this answers my curiosity of reports of frame sectioning as opposed to complete frames.

I had the rear section on my truck frame replaced after I was rear ended. I was pretty skeptical as typical thinking is bent frame, totaled truck but the repair shop walked me through it and it looks like its an intentional design to address frame damage.

I trust Fords design choices but I don't trust the repair shop so much, I have the service guys check the welds at each oil change to be sure it's holding up.

I understand your concerns about the welds. Personally I would be more concerned that new section was positioned properly. Being square and true means the truck won’t dog walk down the road, look twisted with one corner of the bed higher than the other side and no drivability issues. I have a background in body shops and I’ve changed my share of frames but sectioning is new to me. I realize it can be done but how many shops have taken the steps to properly train their techs for these repairs.
