Well darn!! I took a rock to the edge of my windshield yesterday, and ended up with about a 10 inch (if it were straight) crack in my windshield.
Since I have a Lariat with the rain sensing wipers, and auto high beam sensors, should I have it replaced at the dealership or let my local place do it? I know there was some talk a while back about the "sound screen" windshield also.....Bottom line, do you have any experience or recommendations before I get it fixed?
10 inches! Probably the only time I will be able to say this. "Hey mine is longer than yours." I also drove into a flying rock. I have not looked into replacement yet. Just gonna watch your thread.
I have used safelite three times with no issues. One of us just works from home that day and they do the replacement work in our garage. Haven't had an issue with them doing the sound screen windshield either
I had a rock strike last week, instant running crack. Mine is right in the line of sight. I have an XLT but it also has the sound screen windsheild. I'm wondering if it makes any difference if I don't have the Lariat functions the OP mentioned. I have Sync3 and some have speculated that in order for it to function on voice recognition you need the sound screen windshield. Anyway, I am following this as I prepare for the swap.
I have a Lariat with wiper/light sensing. Had Safelite do installation after much deliberation. These are just sensor and do not need calibration. The higher electronics package probably does. As mentioned just insist on OEM Soundglass.
I'm on my 3rd windshield replacement which is a joke considering I had never replaced a windshield before getting my F-150. Now it's a yearly thing! Just look at it wrong and it cracks... I think the SoundScreen OEM windshields might be garbage. I'll be replacing mine this month and I'm going to go for a non OEM and see how long it lasts. $57k truck and the most brittle windshield I've ever seen...
