Need Suggestions - Failed Engine
.
If its oil usage you have, low oil level can be the cause of elevated noise.
Have you been checking level often to see if this is happening?
Some engines in to 18 to 20 year range has faulty bore coatings.
Since you have forced induction, Blow-by will be even worse forcing more oil mist back into the Intake as well as out the exhaust from both, through the PVC and normal combustion contamination.
In a boosted application, the setup is a bit different.
Under BOOST, any vacuum port has to be blocked when in Boost, then opened under DeCell and Idle conditions to vent the Crankcase and allow vacuum for power brake uses etc.
.
Also, excess oil in combustion lowers the Octane rating of the mixture and can cause knocking and Ignition retard. Oil is not high Octane compared to the fuel used but is in the mix and reduces the average.
The above is general to forced induction of this type.
Been there many years ago on a 5 L pushrod engine and positive displacement forced induction.
Good luck.

It is definitely an oil usage issue. At least that’s what the dealer says. I do check the oil periodically because my neighbors 2020 F-150 had the same issue. He had his engine replaced under warranty. That’s when I realized it was a known issue and Ford had issued a bulletin on it. Oil consumption was pretty normal and then at about 60,500 miles I started getting the knocking/ticking/typewriter noise. It got significantly louder so I took it in to the dealership. Unfortunately, the dealer seems to be blowing smoke. I plan on taking it to a Roush certified dealer for a second opinion and a private mechanic for a third opinion. It’s a very expensive repair and my guess is, the dealership is not giving me the full picture.
OP, you said across the bridge to South Carolina, the dealership that I know and trust is in Augusta, Ga. I have used Gerald Jones Ford on Wrightsboro Rd for years. I bought a 2018 F150 from them and noticed a cam phaser rattle later on, they did the work and replaced them right away and I had my truck back in two days. A year or so later I bought another 2018 F150 Platinum with the 5.0L and 3 months later the engine went south. I had it towed to them instead of the dealership I bought it from, they contacted my aftermarket warranty. The aftermarket warranty wanted me to pay for the tear down, about $4000 - 5000 and I said let it sit there until someone verifies that it needs a new engine. A couple days later, they called and said that the warranty was going to replace the engine at no cost to me. I totally trust them, if you are close, give them a try. They will fight for you with Ford and not blow you off.
Good luck
Tom
