I have a 2019 F150 2WD with the current OEM tires 265/60/18. Found a winter tire set-up for $300 only used one season, only problem is that the size is 255/55/18. Besides the speedo being off slightly anything else I should be concerned about? Not looking for style points, just need something better in the snow than stock.

Any winter is better than All Season Stock. This year was my first year in 52 years with winters and I have to say I should have done it 50 years ago. good winters are amazing and I will never go without again.

If you don't care about looks (they'll look a touch skinny and thin), you could always get Forscan and an OBD reader and recalibrate the truck when you put the tires on. Once you get the values figured out, it won't take but a few minutes.

As long as you don’t change the diameter of your tires you should not need to re calibrate your speedo. In this case you should be perfectly fine.

Thanks guys! For $300, and the tires being tad smaller (I'm assuming you would barley notice) I can't go wrong on this deal for the price.

Sorry if I'm stealing your thread... I have a similar question but going the other way. My 19 FX4 came with wranglers in 275/55r20.

I bought a set of Pirelli ATs in 60r. I've read that some guys say when they go slightly larger their speedo actually gets more accurate, others not so much... I guess my question is does ford calibrate the speedo to each individual tire size or do they just do one blanket size?? If guys were saying changing tires made it more accurate I can't help but think they just calibrate to one size..

Based on my sizes, does anyone think it's worth while to reprogram the speedo for one inch bigger diameter?

Mike,

You're change in size is on the safe side, you won't be going as fast as your speedo indicates (about 2.5MPH slower).

I went from 275/65R18 (OEM) to 275/55R20 (same as OEM on '08 20" wheels) which are pretty much the same size. I have to set my cruise control to 122 km/h for my GPS to show an actual speed of 120 km/h. I suspect going to 275/60R20 would just about correct that 2 km/h difference.

Here is a comparison site, Tire Size Calculator plug in the sizes and check the differences.
I went skinnier and taller (small bit) on my cold weather tires. They are working fine just look weird on the truck. KM

Just use a GPS for speed, phone or stand alone.
