Need help deciding
It’s at a Ford dealer & going through their service. They said they do all the fluid changes, etc. but who knows. We’re supposed to go up tomorrow possibly, but I haven't test driven it. Im dealing with a guy I’ve dealt with often so I trust his word, although he is a salesman too. 😂
I just replaced the intake manifold on my 5.0 due to the P2007 IMRC issue so I don’t mind work, but definitely not a mechanic. I was a farm boy back in the day.
Would the cam phaser work itself be listed on the CARFAX or just the notice?
Thank you all for the replies!

It would not show up on Carfax. Ask the dealer for an oasis report of all service history. Then you'll know.
I don't mean to agree, but I do. I see so many people ridiculously overload their trucks with travel trailers. I would look under the towing screen, see if the previous trailers are stored, and see how many miles. I also would like to see the oasis report, but ??? I have done all my maintenance, before it was due, keep records, but usually those are pitched by the clean up boys. Follow your gut, insist on being in drivers seat on a cold start, don't let them pull it it up front for you.
My dad has a 2014 XLT Crew Cab with the 5.0 and that has been a great truck for him. He used to pull a 21 Ft. boat with it before he had to sell the boat. I seldom tow with my 2.7 and that is just a single axle aluminum trailer with a Polaris Ranger UTV, or a lawn mower when I do. It is definitely capable of pulling twice what I pull though. The 3.5 with it's low end torque has a better reputation for towing than the 5.0 with its higher RPM's before reaching torque peak. The 3.5 is a very good motor except for the weak spot being the phasers and chains.

Do the chain issues apply to the 2018 model? I've read where that issue was primarily on the Gen 1 engines? I'm new to the EcoBoost so I'm trying to educate myself pretty quick.
Evidently the 2015 was sold in between me talking to the sales manager yesterday morning and him never calling me back, so as of now the 2018 3.5L is #1 until we find others of course. Ugh!

2018's had a software update for the timing chains/phasers which I believe allowed the engine to turn over during a delayed start when cold to allow oil to be disbursed to the internal components quicker before startup. Ford had a bulletin for extended phaser coverage if I recall correctly. Problem not as bad as the earlier generation. The 2018 3.5 was also known for RTV sealant failure on the plastic oil pan for a few of the owners. Some owners had to have the oil pan replaced with a new one before solving the issue.

One more item worth confirming. I presume they did replace the phasers by now in that 2018. --> Check to see if the part number is one of the two listed in the TSB.
You probably want to jump on this quick if you decide... what are you thinking? Did the dealer provide you with the service history?
