Default Need help!!!!

I am adding 4 puddle lights to my truck (one at each door). I have mounted them using the studs for the running boards. I want them to come on when the truck is unlocked or any of the four doors is opened. I ran my ground directly from the battery so I know that is good. I pulled the dome light from the backseat down and found two wires. Yellow with green stripe, and Black with green stripe. I pulled the trim off the driver's side floor and hood release, and found the yellow with green stripe wire here as well. I installed a T-tap on the wire and ran my hot to all four lights. Surprise! they don't work...

I need to tap a hot wire that only has power when the doors are unlocked or open. Any ideas?

I thought about using the factory puddle light wire found in the side mirror harness but didn't feel like pulling the door trim off to find that.

I did the same thing. Easiest wire to tap is to pull the 3rd brake like oit and tap a cargo light wire. Poke it back through and run the wire behind the headliner and out the grommets in the back of the floor. Easy to do.

I'll take a look at this, sounds like somewhat of a pain to get it through the headliner and down the side trim. Does this wire (from the factory) go all the way to the driver's side kick panel?

you could tap the turn signal or market light wire in the headlamp. Mine come on when I unlock/remote start and open doors.

It does at the bottom but good luck finding it/untangling it.

Its NOT a big deal. Just tuck the wire under the headliner and behind the C-pillar trim. It MIGHT take 10 minutes. Not as bad as it sounds.

Pulling the door panel off takes less than 5 minutes. It is uber easy, go that route if you can. There are youtube videos to demonstrate the simple process. 7mm driver and trim tools, voila.

Wouldn't that make them run whenever the running lights are on? Like at night when you are driving.

Read that whole thread, from what I can tell on those wiring diagrams there is no reason my original tap should not have worked. I tapped in the yellow green wire which is the dome light wire. Unless the tap didn't go deep enough to reach the actual copper wire. I'll take off the tap and see if it even reached the copper wire. If it did I will proceed using the cargo light wire as seen in that thread. Thanks!

The cargo light is a very easy tap. You can knock it out in 15 minutes or less.
