My tailgate came down while....
My tailgate came down while I was at the drive thru at the bank the other day. Luckily no one was behind me. I had to open the door to reach the drawer at the bank. I guess I somehow tapped the tailgate release button TWICE on the key fob while it was in my pocket to make it open.
Is is there a way to disable the tailgate release on the key fob? Like I said luckily no one was behind me. Or had a trailer hooked up. My Gatormade trailer’s jack would’ve hit the tailgate. Talk about being pissed!!

Take the remote apart and cut the "nub" off the silicone insert underneath the tailgate release button. I did it for the panic button on my remote because I was constantly setting it off when squatting down or leaning against the truck when unloading the bed or checking under the hood.
I've wondered about this.It is a convenient feature, and I am sure there is no way to make it foolproof. Also, I wish you could close it with the remote too, I'm sure that is eventually coming.
Back to the OP - I put a silicone jacket on my keys because I was constantly pushing the panic button on accident. In the 3+ years since I put the key jacket on, only once or twice have I hit the panic button accidentally.

I would think Ford would have disabled the power tailgate if the transmission wasn't in park but I guess not. And although I like love the convenience of power assisted features it's yet to be determined how well a power tailgate will hold up in the long term. The tailgate is one of the most beat up pieces on a truck, especially fleet work trucks. Surprised GM put power tailgates on all models.

AFAIK, the GMC MultiPro tailgate is available on higher trim levels of the Sierra, as either a low or no-cost option. Also, I thought the power-lift tailgate (which I didn't think was part of the MultiPro GMC package) is available on LTZ and High Country Silverados only.
I have not gone to their build & price or spec sheets for verification.
