Most new cars are nearly impossible to slim jim. My family owns 2 collision shops and our lockout kit consists of a super slim mini airbag and a nylon wedge. The way these new door panels are designed, the lock rods are nearly impossible to access with a slim jim. A hot locked car w/ a dog inside would defiantly warrant a billy club through the window and I wouldn't have been sad if it got to that point. Im just glad the dog is ok.

I would have never thought an F150 would have this option enabled as there are a ton of these trucks being used as work trucks and people leave them idling for heat and AC a good bit.

I can't argue this... no offense taken.

I can't believe anyone would let their vehicle run for that length of time instead of just leaving their animals at home.

Wow, I wasn't aware of this. I would worry about this for dogs and kids. I couldn't imagine leaving my kids in the truck for long without me, but still, scary.

Just turned mine off. Thank you!

John.. I respect your opinion, however.. where we went shopping is about 40 min away from our house, there is a really nice dog park near the shopping center and a nice little ice cream place that has a doggie sunday that he loves. We take him to the park, go get ice cream, and this time my GF wanted to go grab a dress for dinner this evening. To me.. the $5-10 in gas to idle the truck and have it ice cold in there for the dog to take a nap in the back is worth it rather than leaving him at home alone. He really enjoys the ride, the park, and there is so much room for him to nap in the back, I even have a little dog bed in the back for him.

With all due respect to the OP, I think the title of this thread should be:

"I almost killed my dog".

Taking responsibility for this rather than blaming Ford seems to be more appropriate.

I am happy the dog is fine and I think it's fine to leave him in the vehicle while it's running (although it's probably illegal and wouldn't be enforced anyway unless something happened).

In defense of the OP, I was still learning about features of my vehicle 2-3 weeks after I bought it. There were so many new features that it was simply overwhelming to try to take them all on at once.

Hey whatever floats your boat.. obviously in the end it would be MY fault.. I have been doing this for years w/ my 13 FX4 without an issue, I got this truck Thursday and it just hit 300 miles.. people make mistakes. Also its not illegal to leave your pet in a running vehicle w/ the proper climate control.

EDIT: I actually just tried changing the title to "I almost killed my dog" to make you happy, but it won't let me

I don't disagree, but it's still not Ford's fault.

Check your local laws for leaving an unattended vehicle running. Most cities and/or states have laws against it.

However, I'm sure it's rarely enforced unless something happens.

OP: I'm not picking on you by any means. It's just not Ford's fault.

Thanks for trying to change the title. 😉
