I was taking a look at some of the 2020 trucks and noticed the MPG rating was 1 mpg lower on the 2020 3.5L versus the 2019 model. Is this the EPA calling BS on previous models or did something change internally for 2020?
I looked at both the RWD and FWD and both are lower than 2019.
That's wierd, the ratings on the 2020 3.5 HO haven't changed. I've been shopping 2020 Raptors and the #s on the window sticker are the same as my 2017. 15 city, 18 highway, 16 combined.
Make sure you are comparing apples to apples on model, equipment, gearing etc. One may be an bare bones XLT with 3.31 gears and the other may be a fully loaded Platinum with 3.73 gears. Added weight and the difference in gear would affect mileage.
Here is what I was referencing. Both are RWD, have the 3.5L Ecoboost, 3.55 electronic locker and the same tired, but the mpgs shown are different for the 2019 compared to the 2020.
Wow, you couldn't get much closer to the same truck if you spec'd it out yourself. Maybe the testing criteria changed a bit to get more "real world" results.
Just google the lawsuit....some lawyers are salivating at getting their 30% so they can go buy helicopters and private islands....but it seems Ford has been lying about mileage...even on the 2019 Ranger (which is another investigation)
The moment I saw the window sticker on my 2018 truck, I knew it was BS. And it was. So Ford just adjusted them closer to reality, probably from a threat of a class-action lawsuit, like many others. Or maybe an actual lawsuit in the works, to avoid further liability. Nothing has changed, so it has to be that.
By the way, I get about 16/18 avg on mine, from 17/23. And that's just with myself and wife (less than 300-lbs combined), plus our stuff. When hauling my bike, I get a lot less, as expected. And yes, that's on TX highways, which are 80 mph. If I get a headwind (very often), it drops to 17 or even 16 on the highway, but that's not Ford's fault.

2019 (higher mpg) 2020 (lower MPG, same setup)
Red is always faster and apparently better on gas than white. My last 4 trucks have been white and non have gotten great mileage haha
Finally closer to reality. Every vehicle I’ve owned I have been 1mpg better than the combined on the sticker. My 2016 Platinum 5.0 4WD 3.55 gears has averaged 15.8 mpg and the sticker said 17 combined. I’m 40/60 city vs highway driving.
