MPG discrepency at Fill Up
When I took delivery of my King Ranch with the 3.5 EB motor (36 Gallon Tank), the miles to empty read 507. Today when I filled it up, it showed that I have 375 miles to empty... WTF?
I have about 650 miles on her in 3 weeks.
Anyone else experience this? I have used the remote start feature quite a bit and have had many 10 degree days and a bunch of snow here in the northeast.

I have the same thought. Why wouldn't the tank show the same potential mileage at fill up and then burn fuel faster as you use remote start and 4WD, etc?
Not sure I buy into that yet. How much fuel can the engine burn at idle anyway?

My wife's ecoboost edge's miles to empty changes based on the previous tank. If we run all highway and fill up it shows a lot more miles to empty than an all city run. It appears it calculates from the computer mpg.

The miles to empty is calculated by your driving habits, trailer towing, etc. It 'learns' how you drive and how much extra fuel different trailers consume.
It isn't calculated on what the engine MPG is rated for x the fuel left in the tank.
It simply calculated that on the last tank he used 132 miles worth of fuel testing out the remote start and bun warmers.....
I don't know how far back it uses to average performance and MPG. Perhaps it is one of items that can be reset in the dash display

that is correct. The mileage computer takes into consideration the burn rate (fuel flow) and how far the wheels have turned (distance) and runs a simple algorithm. It calculates how far you have your foot into the throttle. If you go for a nice and leisurely drive, your mileage till empty should go way, way up. Likewise, if you are checking quarter mile times at full throttle, the distance till empty will go down...
Makes sense now that I think about it
The computer has to use some figure to calculate Miles to empty
Best way to calculate is based on the actual MPG the computer has recorded
I know in the work truck MTE changes when I shut the truck off & then start it back up....which seems sort of wrong
....IE MTE goes up....I would think down based on restarting & not traveling right away it would go down
