I can't even get PepBoys to rotate the tires on my truck because they need a 'special' socket to get the lugs off. This 'special' socket is any normal 17mm chromed or impact deep socket. It's the damn HD impact sockets with the 1/4" thick socket walls that they give the monkeys that won't fit!

If you have a record of their condition beforehand, and inspect them immediately after they're done, preferably with somebody representing the shop then you ought to be fine. Before you let them start you could ask for their policy on any damage to your vehicle/wheels/etc.
My local sears let me watch them. Even let me walk through their shop and look at the tires before they put them on

Trust me, they are doing you a favor by not working on your truck. The stories this guy tells me are hilarious. Luckily, upper management is pretty good about handling their screw ups. Apparently most of their service bays have security cameras so they can verify if work was done properly, or at all.

Define "watch" - as in you got to stand right next to the guy at the machine as he mounted them? Or you could watch him through the window? Or watch him from behind the yellow line?

I'd surely believe they let you walk through the shop, they do sometimes have to do this to show you a problem with your vehicle.

By "show" I mean I stood probably 10 feet away. I could see him do it and at the same time I was outside of their way. Not though a window. Was no line

It was not a about price but just did not want my wheels scratched. I ended up going to Goodyear as they were the most expensive and their main business is tires right? Well, they scratched every f:?;(ing wheel.

Every wheel. Still in shock. How do scratch every wheel? I even asked the store manager if there was any reason they could not mount the tires without scratching them. He was real cocky and said that they do this everyday blah blah blah.

He said it was not a big deal they are small dents and scratches. He then said he would buff them out. Even the ones that went through the paint would easily be buffed out.

He then tried to insinuate I scratched them.

I then took his insurance information.

That sucks man...

I would have asked the dink manager how does one "buff out" marks when there is no paint left?

Just like i said though, the monkey running the tire machine will determine how well your rims are treated.

Are they going to replace your rims?

Agreed

My last balance took almost 2 hours to get the road force down to acceptable levels, multiple rim/tire swaps

Before they started I gave the manager $40 and told him to tell the guys I'm buying lunch

Small price to pay, all 4 black wheels stayed flawless
