More 9.75" diff talk
Isn't the easiest way to tell what you have by checking your e-brake? Last I knew the 9.75 still had the manual e-brake while 8.8 got electric.
Besides that only way to get the 2.7 with the 9.75 is with the 2.7 payload package.

No. I have several 8.8" rear axles w/manual parking brake and 9.75" rear axles with electric parking brake.
This is good to know. I considered swapping to a 9.75 because I want 4.10 gears and figured buying a axle might be close in cost to regearing my 8.8. Do you know if the new raptors have an electric e-brake?
Now that was funny! Guaranteed!!
Tommy: Let's think about this for a sec, Ted, why would somebody put a guarantee on a box? Hmmm, very interesting.
Ted Nelson: Go on, I'm listening.
Tommy: Here's the way I see it, Ted. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to fell all warm and toasty inside.
Ted Nelson: Yeah, makes a man feel good.
Tommy: 'Course it does. Why shouldn't it? Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted?
Ted Nelson: What's your point?
Tommy: The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy, well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser and your daughter's knocked up, I seen it a hundred times.
Ted Nelson: But why do they put a guarantee on the box?
Tommy: Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of crap. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.

I have a 2016 XLT 4x4 5.0, e-locker, 3.55 gears. I just crawled under mine after reading this forum, I have the 8.8 rear diff. This doesn't decrease my tow capacity does it? When I search for the 2016 towing chart I believe it is 9100 lbs for my truck's set up. I didn't know if that was assuming the larger rear diff was being utilized?
With the 3.73 axle, you get a 16, 200 lbs GCWR, the 3.55 axle only gives you 14,400 lbs (without sport package) and 14,000 lbs (with sport package).
The better gearing and the extra strength of the 9.75" differential gives you an extra 1,800 lbs of towing capacity.
3.73 rear ratio = 9.75" rear. There have bee a couple comments to the contrary, but no responses to requests for further information, so maybe they were mistaken. I have not gotten confirmation directly from Ford, and in fact they have been contradicting themselves. So far, nobody here has produced an example of a current generation 3.73 without a 9.75", and nobody has produce and example of either a 2.7 eco or 5.0 without a 3.73 that does have a 9.75".
3.5 ECO get a 9.75".
If anyone has direct evidence to the contrary, would love to see it. Sure would be nice if someone at Ford could give a definitive answer.
I pull an 8500+ enclosed car trailers with mine and not an issue. The truck pulls it with no problems.
