I parked in my Moms garage for the first time last night and when I pulled out, my right mirror hit the garage door frame and broke part of the housing and the motor. I have spent 2 hours trying to figure out the part numbers and not having fun. I took the whole mirror off the car and the sticker below shows what I thought was the part # for the whole unit, but it does not show up in any searches. The other picture is a tag from a mirror on eBay. The only difference I can see is mine has the temperature sensor on the bottom and the ebay one does not. The part of the housing that broke is not available as a separate part according to my research. If I bought the bay mirror, I think I would be able to swap the parts I need and get back going again. Any thoughts?
It sucks when it happens. I just called Fairway Ford parts and service department. I gave them my VIN and they told me the parts I needed. Any local dealer could do the same.
Those numbers are Engineering Numbers used by the assembly line for building the truck. In most cases the service Part Number only appears on the packaging and the fourth character is a "Z".
My ex wife destroyed 4 passenger side mirrors on our expedition hitting the garage door frame. Used to be just the motor needed to be replaced with the mirror glass. I feel for you. I wish ford would change the design of the mirror so they'd bend in both directions. I think they make a lot on mirrors. My expedition dealer told me they always keep a bunch in stock as lots of people do this. And yes, like me they got a lot of repeat customers.
I ended up finding a mirror on Ebay that worked out perfect for only $300.00. The only difference is the new one has a chrome cap and mine is black. The good news is my black cap ws not damaged, so I will be able to trade it out when it gets warmer.
I replaced one of the mirrors on my 2013 and its not that bad of a job.
Once you remove the inside door panel its smooth sailing just taking off the bolts that hold the mirror to the door itself. Just sayin, if you wanted to save some money and not claim it on insurance.
