Default Mirror Backup Camera

How big is the display in the rear view mirror for the backup camera? I'm not really interested in the My Ford Touch, but without it the backup camera displays in the rear view mirror. Just curious how useful it is having the display there.

My 2011 mirror display is kinda small. It gets the job done at about 1-5/8" x 2-7/8".

I had it on a truck a few years ago. It was OK.

believe unless you have an XL without one of the at least 4" screens for the entertainment center it should display on in said screen.

I'm under the impression you need the touch screen, otherwise it will show up in the mirror. I'll need to check for sure, as that's a $400 option I do t really want, so if the backup camera shows up on the non touch sync display I'm good.

Nope, it will show up in the 4" entertainment system -- pic from a 2015 XLT 301A package.

I just traded a 2011 with the camera display in the mirror.

Just got a 2014 with the camera display in the Touch screen.

My thoughts are mirror is better...here's why.

Display in mirror:
Yes the display is small but (as Barry-Vee said) "it gets the job done" AND your eyes are already looking at the mirror...you get to see the display and use the actual mirror without moving your eyes/focus.

Display in "Touch" screen:
Yes the display is much bigger but I find it VERY DISTRACTING to look at the camera display and then up to the mirror then back...

I LOVE everything about MyFord Touch except for the rear view camera display location... Too distracting and your eyes are looking down...not up at the mirror and outside.

Just my thoughts.

Well, its probably not a good thing, but the backup camera in the display is such a good view and has such a good angle, I find myself just using it alone to backup and not looking in the mirror.

I agree with justjimmy- I have my backup camera in the mirror on my 11 Lariat and I prefer it that way. I had a rental with the camera in the dash and it was distracting. All of us, since we were learning to drive, look in the rearview mirror to back up. It is natural to look in the mirror and not at a screen on the dash. I also don't consider the view small. Keeping the camera lens clean is the trick. Keep it clean and you have a sharp clear image.
