My '16 4WD Supercrew came with Goodyear Wranglers. We have a trip north planned for January and need a highway tire that can do a better job in snow and ice. Michelin LTX AT2 or LTX MS? I'm thinking the MS might be a little too noisy and have too short tread life.

I can tell you the LTX MS2 from Michelin is a great tire. I put a set on my wife's 07 Tahoe and never regretted it. They are extremely quiet on the highway, long tread life(we put over 50k miles on them and they probably had another 30k left), and are more than adequate in light snow-never drove in more than 1ft so I'm not sure how they do beyond that. They're not a dedicated off road/snow tire but in the 4 years and 50+K miles we had them, I never wished is have used a different tire. Winters in SW Ohio aren't the worst, but we did travel to the thumb of MI quite a few times in winter, and had to drive a lot of gravel roads that rarely got plowed and the tires did great.
I also put a set of the LTX AT2 on a 2011 Sierra I had, but they were only on the truck a week before I traded it in so I don't know how they are as a winter tire. I do know the week I had them, that Sierra rode like a dream-better than it ever did with the factory good for a years. No road noise, and soaked up bumps quite well.

Another vote for the LTX M/S2, however it's been replaced within the past year by the Defender LTX M/S. Basically the same tire with an improved compound. Great choice for a highway biased tire though. Loved the M/S2 on my '06.

I have the LTX M/S tires on my Fx4. I go back and forth over the Cascade Mountains frequently in the winter. Start out in the wet, ascend to snow, then to bare and dry, then to deep snow. These tires handle it all. And they are at least as quiet as the stock Hankooks.

Correct... just bought another set and they were Defenders. I believe they are LTX M/S 2

I have the Michelin LTX/MS 2's on my beater Expedition (I can't kill this thing) and these are some of the best tires I have ever used. Great all weather tire. They have not seen snow yet (I put them on last February but, Texas) and they have handled anything thrown at them. Pretty quiet too in my opinion. Unflappable in the rain, and the treadwear has been outstanding. I have 13k miles on them now (rotated every 5k) and the tires still look virtually new. My 2015 F150 is my camping/tow vehicle, and this 2002 Expedition is my daily commuter (48 mile round trip to work and back).

I think you may have these backwards... the A/T2 is all-terrain, the M/S is an all-season. A/T2 will be noisier and have reduced tread life.

I'm a big fan of the various versions of M/S tires... have run them on several vehicles for many years and haven't been disappointed.

^I just got these^
Sticks like glue in rain and light snow... didn't even need 4wd...not sure about ice yet, but ratings are good... they have 75K mileage rating
No regrets

I ha e the energy saver LTX that came with the truck. Has the same tread pattern as the LTX M/S. While I like a larger tire I have been very impressed with the performance in icy roads. Here in western WA we seem to always get rain just before the temps drop so lots of ice on roads this time of year.
