Default MAX Tow package ??

I recently acquired a
2020 Lariat FX4 3.5 SC 5.5 bed, it has the MAX tow package as well

So after checking Fords web site in tow ratings it looks like the MAX tow package can get an F150 as high as 13,900 with the right trim & powertrain options

I’m reading my truck as rated for 12,500 but I noticed a footnote on Fords site stating 20” wheels required for that otherwise it’s 10,500

I’d been looking at swapping for some OEM 18” wheels but not I’m not sure about that now

anyone have some insight on the 20” wheels and the tow rating on these trucks ??

I figured it would be more related to tire load rating ,
anyway …..

20" wheels, the tires have less flex, stiffer stance for towing. I simply air my 18's up a tad when towing, not as good, but way nicer ride for everyday. So, another thread about maxing towing? As one with a decent optioned 2020, rest assured your payload on your drivers door will more than likely be your determining factor, no one tows flat bed steel as the marketing brochures imply. If you are hoping to tow a larger travel trailer, I highly encourage you to list more details about your truck and your thoughts, many of us will help keep you on the road safely.

Your Lariat will never legally tow 12,200lbs.
Maybe 9,000 if you are lucky and don't load anything in the truck.

I agree…especially if you plan to tow a travel trailer. At 13,900 lbs your tongue weight will more than likely exceed your payload capacity.

I would never try and tow something that big with a half-ton but it’s still interesting isn’t it that Ford publishes these row ratings ??

Why would Ford publish ratings that would be illegal ???

The tow ratings themselves are not “illegal.”

You could tow a flat bed or utility trailer and possibly only be at 10% tongue weight. In that case, your GVRW, GCVWR and trailer weight will all probably be under the limit.

If you go above 10% tongue weight…which you likely will at 12-14k lbs trailer weight…then you’ll more than likely be pushing the payload limits of the truck. Especially without max payload package.

IMHO, 8k lbs is about the max I’d go on these trucks. Maybe 10k with the payload package.

I would always stay on the conservative side for towing and I imagine I’d probably be leery of anything over 8000lbs
but it is interesting the ratings that get published these days by the manufacturers especially for these half-ton trucks.
