Default Maps from IPhone not displaying on screen?

This is on 2020 F150 XL. I am able to link phone via bluetooth, make calls, play music from phone and use maps/directions audio only. Can also use Siri. However will not display map on Ford screen. When I go to apps memo/ see apps get message “apps must be open on device to display on applink”.
tried using CarPlay but only get Siri. Any idea how to fix or does my model simply doesn’t have ability?

Your phone needs to be plugged into the USB port to use apple or android car play. It will not display via Bluetooth unless you have some type of wireless dongle. You would have to check you manual to see if your XL came with car play.

It sounds like your 2020 F-150 XL may not support full Apple CarPlay integration or require certain settings. If only Siri without a map is displayed, try updating your SYNC system via Settings > General > About SYNC. Also check that your iPhone is connected with a certified USB cable, as some CarPlay features only work with a wired connection. It is also important to make sure that CarPlay is enabled in Settings > General > CarPlay and that your car appears in the list of connected devices. If the problem persists, try allowing CarPlay in locked state in Settings > Screen time > Content and privacy. In some Ford models, only basic AppLink features are available, which may explain the lack of maps. If nothing helps, it's possible your car simply doesn't support displaying maps from your iPhone. And if you want to personalize your phone a bit, try the best free ringtone app. Good luck!

I had the exact problem last week in my 2019 WITH THE PHONE WIRED IN. Haven’t messed with it since.

1. The phone has to be plugged into the USB ports for CarPlay to work. Try a few different cables if you're not having luck. Some generic cables are charge only and don't carry a data signal. Sometimes it's touchy and only likes certain cables.
2. Try updating Sync software to the latest version. You CAN update from Settings > General > About SYNC, and the unit will automatically update - but you need to connect to WiFi first. Alternatively, you can download from the Ford website, copy to a USB, and plug it into the truck.
3. Some years didn't originally come with CarPlay and needed the Sync update and a new USB hub to support CarPlay. This was the case for my 2016. Not sure what year that changed.

Ahh, that's right. This is the janky Sync3 system. Not to be confused with the janky Sync4 system.

Took the time and went out in the weather to test the app. Even though I had ended the route and closed out the map app after using it a week ago, it came up as soon as I connected the data cable. So it decided to start working, setting in the driveway I was expecting to have to do an update or similar.
