Default Map Update for SYNC 3.....I'm confused.

I've tried to follow all the threads about map updates but I'm still striking out. I have a 2016 F150 with SYNC 3. I recently went to the Ford website and downloaded SYNC v. 3 to a flash drive and successfully update my SYNC. I then called the Ford help line and was told that the only way to get a map update was by purchasing one through a dealer. I also called the Here company and they said that, while they used to sell Ford updates, they do not anymore and I would have to get one from a dealers. But so far I've contacted 2 dealers and both of them said that they can't do a map update for me, that "they automatically update via WiFi."

Am I missing something?

I have the same issue. It's why I do not recommend the nav to anyone. It appears that Ford has slowly doing away with data updates. What you got when you downloaded the 3.0 was just a programming update. The map data (new roads, poi.s, etc) is separate.

I don't see the need to pay to update the maps with the variety of options through Android Auto or Carplay. I like having the factory maps there for major highways and just in case but mainly use Android Auto Google maps. If you want to update maps there is an entire thread discussing it here:

https://www.f150forum.com/f118/sync-...ilable-410997/

The first post gives the part number and information to order including a dealer you can contact that knows what they are doing. I don't know why so many dealers are completely unaware of how to order the SYNC 3 map update. There is an entire document explaining to them how in their internal mail/messaging system. Most probably just don't want to bother....

Map updates cannot be done by wi-fi. My local dealer was clueless even after I gave him the part number from the thread above.

I purchased one from Griffin Ford listed on the thread above for my 2017 and installed it with no issues.

I followed the advice (in post 3 above) to work with Trevor at Griffin Ford and he ordered the update for me 15 minutes ago. Unfortunately, he called back just now and said that something is wrong on the Ford end and the order was cancelled. He said it's been a couple of months since he last ordered one successfully.

I tried again, this time with my local dealer, and they tell me that an order was attempted but it wouldn't go through because Ford says that I already have the latest map version. But my truck is 2 years old and I've never updated it. How do I know if I truly have the latest version?

I posted the original thread on the upgrade being available. The threadt includes a .pdf file with instructions on how to install, the part number, what you need to order and my dealer contact, if you have an issue should you want to order it. The link below should work.

If not do a search for sync-3-nav-update-available-410997

https://www.f150forum.com/f118/sync-3-nav-upgrade-available-410997/

Be aware the only way to upgrade the navigation is with a Ford issued thumbdrive. Each drive is specific to the individual vehicle/ESN combination. However I've seen people mention Ford apparently is having issues with orders for the Nav update. I'll check with Trevor Friday and post what he knows about the situation.

Trevor at Griffin Ford is great at working out issues and has for many forum members who have contacted him.

I look forward to your report, Ifallsguy. So far I've spent hours searching and talking to people and it's been nothing but dead ends.
