Default Low mpg

Hi, ever since i bought my 2015 5.0, I’ve been averaging around 14-16 mpg. Is this normal or should it be higher?

I live in Houston, so i do lots of city and highway driving with the occasional tow every once in a while.

That sounds pretty typical. If you want truly experience bad mileage, run a tank of E85. You’ll probably loose 2-3 mpg.

14-16 sounds normal. Maybe close to 20 on hwy (wait you're in TX, never mind haha). Higher octane gas will get better mpg, but besides better performance the cost of the gas won't exceed the benefits of mpg.

Rear gearing will make a difference too. My 2015 4x4 screw with a 6.5 bed and 3.73 gears gets about 15.5 to 16.7 depending A LOT on the loud pedal lol. Regular driving usually gets me around 16ish. Also letting the truck warm up on a cold day seems to hit overall mpg pretty hard too. A friend at work has pretty much the same truck, but with 3.31 gears and he says he's seen up to 19-20 on the highway
Also as has been said, i tried E85 one time and i averaged 13.2mpg 😭😭😭 definitely not worth it

That MPG is about what I get local but I live in very hilly country. Any time I go for a drive of 30+ miles my mpg jumps to 17-18, on country roads.

I dont know what your driving habits are like but
if you follow speed limits closer
Dont go over 2000 rpms at stop signs or lights,
and coast more youll see big difference in your mileage.

I use the snow/slippery mode usually, and drive with an egg betwixt my foot and go pedal. I might be in a little different situation, I have a tune that keeps my trans in the power band when in normal mode, so unless I hit 60 mph, my truck in normal won't go into 10th, with the snow/slippery, it will get into 10th at 45,
Maybe try the snow setting?
I've done everything I can, short of a whipple, to get as bad of mileage as I can, but I still get into the 18 mpg range according to the lie-o-meter, with country road and hilly driving.
