Default Looking into modifying steering wheel.

Hello Guys...

As some of you may noticed, the leather on our steering wheels feels "cheap" and "scratchy".... I would like to customize with better quality softer leather and a much thicker rim... so I was looking for some advice as to who can do this type of job? Or maybe even a steering wheel cover but don't like the looks that much... any info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
JC

Your best bet would be to find a shop local to you that could re-wrap your wheel with better/thicker leather. Anything online would be a one size fits all type cover, there is a possibility you might find something more specific online but I doubt it.

Amazon: This is a leather stitched wrap comes with needle thread and leather wrap. Has 4.5 stars and a lot of purchases so probably a decent product.

First off. The stock wrap is plastic. Lol

It's actually not that bad. Growing on me. It doesn't get stained like a leather wrap so it'll stay clean.

I feel the same way about the steering wheel, I had two 2015 Mustangs, one with the 50th anniversary trim and one with the Premier interior trim, and both steering wheel materials felt night and day different from the F150. Granted, I get the money in the F150 may have gone somewhere else, it still kind of sucks that it feels like I have a base XL steering wheel in a 50k truck.
I thought about the wrap idea, I just haven't seen many well done so i guess I'm hesitating to try it out :-/

If I knew I could remove the plastic wrapping on my steering wheel and do the one that was posted above, I would go that route. There are a few places where I would like to have that leather tucked under the plastic on the wheel.

I personally love the feel of the Platinum steering wheel. The top and bottom part is "plastic wood" if I could find a Platinum steering wheels that has black plastic or maybe even a light carbon fiber That would be a future mod for sure!
