Hello, as the proud owner of a 2016 f150 XL why is so hard to find a locking gas cap, not the kind that replaces the body lid, thanks

They changed the term from cap to plug when the necks became self-sealing. Yay progress!

Probably because siphoning gas is not really a problem anymore (if it ever was). 40 years of driving and I've never had gas siphoned nor known anyone who has. It's supposedly just about impossible with modern filler necks, and someone would have to steal a boatload of gas to equal the cost of that locking plug.

Once upon a time it was, back in 1974 as 17-year old's wanting to cruise we would siphon gas. Gas stations didn't have gas with the embargo. We'd start the siphon then leave coming back 10 mins later to our "score" 5 gallons of gas which would get us 50 miles of cruising in a '68 390 Torino Good times!!!!

As young whippersnappers, we siphoned gas all the time. Oops, did I just say that?

One time, my buddy swallowed some gas while doing that. We went back to my house where he was feeling ill. I told my dad that my buddy accidentally swallowed some gas. My dad, ever the joker, asked, "Does he feel a strong urge to run around the yard in circles?" LOL

The previously mentioned plug is not for your generation 150. I don't think you will find one.

A locking plug/cap is versatile.

It prevents thievery but also prevents shenanigans. I doubt one is more typical than the other but I suppose I'd rather somebody siphon gas into a 2 gallon can before I want them pouring something into the fill neck.
