Default Lock not locking/unlocking fully

Hi all,
I have a 2015 f150 3.5l eco.
Lately i have been having issues with the lock not popping up/down completely when i use the key fob to lock/unlock. I have to press the key fob maybe 3 times before it'll unlock completely. It's currently hovering between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius(32-40 ish f.) so i don't feel like it's the same 'freezing lock' issue that's plagued this model - could be wrong though.
I did take the door panel off when it was 10 degrees outside, and everything seemed to be functioning well so i soaked it in fluid film anyways and put it all back together. Next morning same thing...3 pops to unlock the door.
I'm assuming there's a motor that pops the lock - thoughts on whether this could be failing? I do see the lock trying to pop up with each fob attempt.
I can probably post a video tomorrow if u think that'll help.
Oh and one last thing, the internal lock/unlock button works just fine every time.

Thanks for any assistance.
Chris

Sounds like the mechanism is sticking. Try using some lubricant on it. Fluid Film is not a lubricant.

Thank you for responding, i will try this tomorrow and post if it works.

(It was fluid film from a spray can, which does say it's a lubricant right on it - but I get what you're saying.. thanks again! )

The spray Fluid Film is definitely a lubricant and it works really well on OE PRBs.

There was an issue independent of the frozen door latch problem with these lock actuators. Water would get into the lock actuators and freeze and also over time corrode the components. This is why the lock / unlock issue can happen in warmer temps. Ford had a customer program 20M04 from 2021 which extended the warranty on the lock actuators to 10 years or 150,000 miles. If you Google customer program 20M04 you can find information on the problem / repair.

The lock actuators are integral with the door latches on these Trucks so you could have both issues. This is what happened to me in 2020. I performed many of the fixes for frozen door latches found on this forum but they did not solve the door lock actuation issue so I just opted to replace all 4 door latches / lock actuators in 2021. Here's my post on the freezing door latch thread..... https://www.f150forum.com/f118/2015-...2/#post7345044

There was a revision to the door latches / actuators which included sealant on the housings of the lock actuator. My original latch / actuators did not have this on my 2016 F150. I have not had any issues with either the frozen door latch or lock actuators since I replaced them in 2021. Funny thing is a month after I replaced them, I got the letter in the mail about the program.

Yeah, I guess you could consider it a lubricant in the same sense that bunker "c" oil could be called a lubricant. I don`t know about your Fluid Film, but the stuff I use looks to be the consistency of snot when I use it.

Thanks guys for all your input - I feel a little ridiculous posting this, but I tried spraying the lock portion that protrudes the door frame with a bit of Amsoil lubricant, and it actually has been working much better for the past couple of days. Zero issues. I had previously tried doing the same with Silicone spray but it did absolutely nothing.

I will keep an eye for now, and take it to the dealer if it starts acting up again - should know soon enough as it'll be a high of 1 Celsius here for the next week at least.

Thanks again!

I’m guessing a matter of time before you’re replacing the lock/actuator. When mine went bad it indicated the door was ajar and drained the battery and interior lights stayed on.

Default Fixed!

Well, I ended up going to the dealership to get it checked over the holidays as it was still acting up - I quoted the TSB from the link found in the thread.

I'm happy to say they replaced it free of charge!

Thanks to everyone that replied !
