Default Leveling kit install question

I bought a Motofab 2" leveling kit and have been watching videos on installing them so I dont run into any surprises. In the videos, the installer rotates the top plate 180 degrees. In the comments, somebody said they always just swap the struts from one side to the other instead of rotating the plate. Has anybody ever heard of doing this, or tried it? Seems like it would save alot of time.

It works. I've never heard of anyone rotating the top plate. When you stick the spacer on, it's true, you throw the bolt alignment out 180*. You could flip to the other side, or, rotate the bottom mount, pinbar, to realign with LCA. One of the joys Ford gave us in '14 instead of the through bolt. No idea why.

What's different with 2014? The current and previous gen shock/spring assemblies look the same.

Maybe I wasn't clear. In 2014 Ford began using the pinbar type mount instead of the thru bolt that has the eye with bushing like our rear shocks.

Sometimes the through bolt can rust to the shock eye, then it becomes a mother to remove the through bolt. At least with the new design, that won’t happen.

LOL, if that's why, it would seem like time could have been spent on the top stud mount. Can't begin to think how many of those I've busted on various cars/trucks.

I get that part... your statement appears to indicate that switching the lower mount creates an issue when needing to rotate the bottom of the shock that didn't exist with the through-bolt style. As either design can be installed in two positions, 180º from each other, you can simply rotate either the pre or post 2015 shocks.

The only difference I've found is with the Bilstein shock body: if you don't get the perch perfectly aligned, you can rotate the bottom of the shock as the perch is not wedged against the Bilstein like it is on the oem shock.
