Leveling kit install help

Default Leveling kit install help

I have been looking at installing a leveling kit to my truck. So far the best quote I have got to install a level was a 2” for $800. I was looking to install the Auto Spring 2.5” and for $100 figured I can do it myself. I’m definitely not the most mechanically inclined but also I’m not completely lost and all the install videos seem fairly simple. I’m just curious on the tools I would need to do this install. I recently moved across the country so my tool supply is minimal. All the videos show air tools being used- Are these necessary or can the install be done with good ole man power? Any special tools required? Tips? Or is it just worth it to have a shop do it?

$800 seems steep. Is that for install with leveling kit or just install. Seems like I saw other guys in the $300-$400 install range. Have you tried your local Ford dealer?

That was kit and install which still seemed expensive to me. I haven't tried my Ford dealership yet but intend to this week.

I did the install on my truck in about an hour in my driveway with the help of a friend. There were times that having an extra set of hands was nice. But I could have easily done it by myself.

Just make sure you have the right tools before getting started. I good pry bar and a breaker bar will help a lot.

I recently completed mine in my garage with the help of a buddy, used all hand tools, with the exception of a battery-powered impact driver (just to speed things up here and there - not necessary).

I second the pry bar and breaker bar. I don't remember all the exact sizes you need, but if you have a good variety of 8mm-21mm sockets and wrenches, you should be okay (the LCA bolt was 27mm though I think). I'm sure someone on here will have the sizes readily available, if not, I will run them down.

Overall, I don't think it was too bad - first side took maybe an hour and a half max, second side was half that. I didn't pull the axle or anything like that, just disconnected the tie rod, sway bar, and ball joint and pried out the strut assembly; this is the method the AutoSpring instructions had to use and was shown in a Stage3 Motorsports video.

All that being said, the main reason I decided to tackle myself was the whole "no one cares about your stuff like you do" thing, I just wanted to make sure I knew what was going on with it, especially if something went wrong.

And of course, don't forget the alignment - mine drove fine, enough to forget the need, but toe was definitely off.

Wow! That is about 2.5x the price of what I'm paying to have mine leveled. I'm going with a different kit but it's about the same cost to buy. I'd shop around more or DIY

Sounds to me like the shop just didn't want your business. Overquoted to get you to go away or thought you were sucker enough to do it

I'm glad to hear it is doable by hand!! And I also was following the Stage3 Motorsports video. Just wasn't sure if certain bolts had specific requirements on torque
Ill make sure to grab a pry bar and breaker bar if I get more high quotes. Where I am has pretty limited choices from what Ive found so far. Ill most likely do it myself though and just bring it somewhere to get aligned. I also am a big believe in that no one cares like I do about my truck.

I paid $550 for installation, lifetime alignment, and camber kit.

Bought the leveling kit direct from Auto Spring.
