Default Lariat engine choice

Hey everyone!

I am planning on buying a 2019 or 2020 Lariat. I have read a lot on the 2.7, 3.5, and 5 liter engines but not sure which to go with.

I have 17 foot Four Winns boat I pull in the summer but won’t tow much beyond that.

The 2.7 liter engine is most common in my price but I am unsure of the reliability of that engine 150 000 to 200 000 km range and beyond.

I would like to here from owners on the long term reliability of the 2.7 engine.

Thanks for any input!
Paul

2.7 is likely the most reliable. Fun to drive and should handle what you want with ease.

You will get various opinions.

3.5 would be the best and strongest towing engine but can possibly have cam phaser issues those years.

5.0 is a great choice, but 18+ can use oil.

OP said wanted to hear from 2.7 owners!!!

But ya...5.0...best choice!

Pretty much most engine choices will easily tow the boat.

2.7 has really proven itself to be a great engine. Lots of good reviews, nothing really common with them.

for reference, I own a 5.0. I wish I got the 2.7.

Having owned a '13 5.0, a '14 3.5, and now an '18 2.7, my personal preference would be either the 5.0 or the 2.7. The 3.5 I had was a turd compared to the 5.0 in the same configuration truck with steeper gears on the 3.5 (4.10 vs 3.55 on the 5.0).

You cannot go wrong with either the 5.0 or the 2.7 in terms of reliability and power for what you are looking to accomplish based on your post. Both will tow your boat with ease. If it were me, the deciding factor would be mileage first, cost second, and "options" 3rd.

I'm guessing the 3.5 was NOT an ecoboost?

My 2.7 has been stone cold reliable and has never lacked for power.

10000000% agree. I've had two 3.5 EB and many troubles even after pristine maintenance. I did love the 3.5 but the Ford service advisors even told me to get a 5.0. I've been very satisfied. 2-3 mpg better gas mileage too! However, I've heard nothing but great things about the 2.7
