Default Lane Keeping

My 16 king ranch has the lane keeping. It works pretty well but randomly it will start beeping and say put hands on steering wheel when they already are. When I say already are, i mean like on top of the steering wheel with my arm weight, not lightly touching with finger tips. Is this an issue or normal with the lane keeping? Only reason I ask is because my wifes lexus does not do this, only when you really aren't touching the steering wheel.

my 19 does the same thing - it is a known issue per Ford - working as designed

My understanding is the system is sensing for torque applied to the steering wheel to determine if your hands are on the wheel or not.

If you keep your hands at the 12 o'clock position, you won't be placing much torque to the wheel causing the notification. Placing your hands closer to 9 or 3 o'clock will help, as will torquing the wheel slightly when it notifies you.

Just hold the bottom of the wheel, I have never seen that notification on my truck or Explorer. I tend to hold the wheel on the bottom, my wife holds the top and she sees it every once in awhile. Even on a straight road turn the wheel ever so slightly and it goes away.

You might be able to change that in the settings by putting it into air only mode, not alert + aid.

Yeah, I get this all the time. I drive with my left hand at about 7 o'clock. It is a safety/liability thing. Ford doesn't want people thinking they can drive hands-free with lane assist.

I've joked before that if I had adaptive cruise (I don't because I screwed up ordering), between that and lane assist I could sleep on my way to work! LOL

You have to have given NO steering input for a while, AND you have to get a yellow lane indicator (I think at least twice) before you get the two hand message.

I get it, it pisses me off. I usually turn off lane keep for a while after I get it.

I do, should try it, it's fun.

I always get it, my truck tracks so nice and straight that I don't normally need to touch the wheel with nothing more than forefinger and thumb. It is based on input, when hands are up high on the wheel the weight of your arms helps keep the wheel moving, especially on bumpy roads, less so on really smooth roads. When the hands are down low, there is much less input from the road on your arms, so it will come up more frequently. It is a bit too aggressive though on its reminder, I have had it come on in less than a half mile after turning.

Now something I have noticed on mine that has nothing to do with the alert screen, and that is the aid part. At times the truck can drift towards the right white line, and I have found that at times it will not aid at all, and wont alert until it has crossed over the line, with now alerting prior with the yellow arrows, it goes right from green to red. A bit further down the road and it starts aiding again. It never does this on the left line, always aids well before hitting the line. It does it at random too.
