Knocking noise from moonroof

Pleased to hear the mod worked for you .... It always slightly nervous to share things on a forum, even though it has worked on my own vehicle for several months. TeamTee

I realize this won't help anybody but just wanted to throw out some empathy.
I purchased a Toyota Venza in 2011....(one of the most double-edged best/worse decisions of my car buying life). That car had amazing potential but Toyota blew it.....royally!
Long story short.....the whole top of that thing is glass with only the front portion opening moonroof (rear passengers only get to look thru glass, not open) and while it's been enjoyable at times, like most folks with moonroofs, it gets used about 2% of actual driving time....(i.e. not really worth it, imho).
The thing pops, ticks & snaps like there's no tomorrow. No real rattling per se (at least not yet) but if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably have skipped the moonroof in lieu of luggage racks & pocketed the extra grand or so.
For that very reason, I opted out on my XLTScrew and 110% enjoy the silence that is this truck. It's buttoned up so tight it makes my Toyota seem like a Yugo! (and I used to be a Toyota fanboy)
Good luck to all looking for a solution & don't let it drive you crazy!! My $.02!!

Interesting. Every single vehicle that I have owned, that had a sun / moonroof installed was open all the time that I could (weather dependent, Florida). I always used it, and it was rare that it was not open. I may be in the minority, but I love my sunroofs (and I suspect many others do also). I ordered my 2017 about 10 days ago, and am hoping that I do not have these issues, I am very nervous at the moment reading all this.

I followed the TSB instructions about a week ago, and since then, 500+ miles and no noises whatsoever! +1 to whomever posted the TSB on this forum.
In the mid-atlantic, and at highway speeds, I don't get to open the sunroof a lot, but I do tilt it up quite frequently, and I enjoy the extra sunlight being let in.
Driving around town, especially at night, it's awesome! I miss my convertibles

It's been really cold here in Texas (25 degrees!) and the rattle is getting worse on my truck. It's moved/increased from just the back right to now the front right. It's to the point my wife is telling me to take it to the dealership. I guess I'm going to make an appointment for next week. Wish me luck!

I just followed up with doing this with my truck. It's 35 Degrees here, I have had the constant creaking sound when driving, while hitting bumps. Same as many, if I vent the panel, then put it back down it stops/ quiets some for a little while. After doing this, it seems to have gone away. Granted it was only a 5 mile drive, but 100% better than before for sure. How long it will last, we will see.
So, as stated above, I ordered some " Slick tape". I did not shave any of the plastic off the leading edge of the stationary panel. I cleaned it with a dry rag, then with alcohol rag. I then applied the slick tape from one end to the other and cut off the extra in the corners. Took more time to place the order on Amazon than to apply the tape.
Like I said, time will tell, but as TeamTee stated, it's been working for him. Until ford has a 100% true fix, I will stick with this. I have no leaks and don't want to get any.
Even if this is only good 6 months at a time, it's better than dealer visits and no true fix and gaining any leaks. Make sure you get the right width of tape. I accidentally bought .025 first and it won't work.
Hope this helps some!

Tape the edge of the exposed stationary panel. The slick tape then is a non friction barrier between the rear seal in the front panel and the front seal on the rear stationary panel. In the photo attached you are looking at the passenger side, front lip of the stationary rear panel. Tape that lip from one side to the other.
This info help? If not I can try and take more photos later

Open the moor roof fully. The front panel slides back and under the stationary panel. The stationary front panel is now exposed across the front. The exposed area to tape is where the two panels meet when the moon roof is closed.
