Default Just an auto tail gate rant

Anyone else leave their keys in their pocket and accidentally open their auto tail gate with a trailer attached. I did lol and the tail gate softly landed on the trailer and scratched my tail gate. You would think that with all of the features the instrument panel states it's going to disable because it recognizes the trailer, the auto tail gate would be one of them.

If you just scratched your tailgate you were lucky.

My trailer has a nasty-looking piece of steel that sticks up about 3"+, right under that acoustic foam pad in the pic. It is the emergency brake break-away lever.

I could see that this was going to be a problem during my ownership. If the tailgate dropped, for whatever reason, I would have a punctured, not scratched, tailgate.

So, a couple of short 2x4 pieces, some scrap 1/2" plywood, some screws, and a leftover piece of acoustic foam, and you have the contraption I made in the pic. Not elegant, but it works. The tailgate can do a full drop, no problems.

The bungees are there because if I hook up with my WDH hitch, the problem goes away, so the gadget stays home. The tailgate can't hit anything with the WDH installed.

Just happened to me the other day. Fortunately, I wasn’t towing anything. Thought something didn’t feel right in the rear. So basically I’ve used the fob once to intentionally open it, and once on accident.

This is one I never thought of being I’ve only had my ‘15 Lariat for a couple months.

I won’t own a trailer that doesn’t have a swing away jack. I always need something in the bed if my truck when pulling a trailer. With most trailers you can’t even open the tailgate in purpose without it hitting the jack.

I haven't had any problem like that... I have to hit my remote twice to trigger the open gate..

What I do instead, is all too often, hit the panic alarm button with the remote in my pocket - then I have to dig it out to clear the alarm. I have to change that with forscan.

Trailer problem not a truck problem. Get your trailer modified like the rest of us.

How convenient! The Sierra's gonna have the same issues but worse, hitch alone will do damage, no trailer required. Mechanical handle FTW
