Default IWE Help

Hey all,
I have a 2018 F150, I bought it used a year ago. It used to make the groaning noise when it was cold out, I took it in and one dealership said it was my brakes, the pads were glazed. The truck stopped fine so I drove it almost a year before replacing pads and rotors a couple weeks ago.

Now the groaning noise is full time. I took it to another dealership and they have told me the IWE on one side is bad and want to replace both. I can do these jobs myself (I took it in thinking it was a bad wheel bearing that would be covered by my warranty- IWE are wear items that are not covered) and don't have a problem doing it. I have read here that a common problem are the check valves, my question is would the dealership not be able to diagnose a back check valve and go straight to the IWE's on the wheel or do you think it could still be the check valve even though they said the actual IWE. I had almost no issues before changing my brakes a couple weeks ago. I don't have a lot of confidence in the diagnosis from the dealership since I've been given two different diagnosis at this point. I'm inclined to change the check valve since it's so cheap and might be the issue. I'm more just wondering if it sounds like the dealership is trying to upsell me on full IWE's instead of just doing the easy fix. And if I change the IWE's and the check valve is bad, won't I just have the same issue?

Thanks, in advance, for any posts!

IWEs are not wear items that I've ever heard.

Hmm... do you think I should fight the warranty company on it? I figured it was like CV axles that I doubt they would cover.

The check valve is less than $10 at Auto Parts store, just replace it. There are a hundred threads indication how to troubleshoot this system and many how to videos on youtube.

Thanks guys... I did replace the check valve and it didn't resolve. Of course I bought it at the dealership since I was there, way over priced. And their quote for IWE's was laughable. I stayed away from dealerships for a long time but had a friend at a Lincoln dealership so I've been going there for 5 years or so, he must have been cutting me a good deal because the prices I was quoted today were obscene. I won't be going back there. I do most of my own work but like I said above, I thought I had a wheel bearing going out that would be covered by my warranty. The IWE's aren't covered and it was $200 just to diagnose... super annoying. Thanks for posting and helping out though!

Also, prices for IWE's are ridiculous, the last time I replaced them on my 04 it seems like they were $50 or under but now they're $180 on rockauto 😡

I've posted this many times and will again. First, can you load a video to You Tube so we know what a groan sounds like?
And, does it sound like this?

Thank you johnday, I saw this video in another post yesterday doing my research. At this point, the dealer has diagnosed it as IWE issues and it sounds like everything I've read. I only took it to the dealership because I thought it was a wheel bearing and it would be covered by my warranty. If I had researched the issue beforehand I probably would have skipped the dealership and just did the IWE's myself. Live an learn I guess.

I know this topic has been talked to death. I appreciate people posting to help out!

yeah, Apple Auto has them for like $120 each....I just did mine on my 18', I replaced everything (IWE, switch, one way, upper lines) except the lines running to the IWE, hopefully it gets me another 8 years which will probably close to the end of life for this truck. I replace everything with OEM parts from a Dealer (Apple Auto), don't try anything from Amazon or ebay, they will say ford but they are mostly counterfeit.

Yes, something as important as these are, use only OEM
