I still think it was spiders. One of the most common ones around loves the smell of gas.

But you knew Mazda and Ford have/had a partnership right? Spiders are also aware.

Hey Rowdy, I'm having a similar problem and wondering if the symptoms you had were the same so I can look into a similar fix:

I put the nozzle in and start pumping gas then the nozzle itself pops out about 1/2" from it's starting seated position causing the pump to start. If I try to start it from this new position it doesn't let me. Another way to describe it is that it's like it's not "latching" in deep enough to keep the pump going. When it pops out the 1/2" or so it's definitely still securely attached to the truck.

Did yours do that (or anyone else out there have this problem and a solution?)
