Default ISO Camper Shell

Apologies if I’m posting in the wrong section.

New member and Im on mobile. Didn’t see BST section.

As per the title I’m looking for a camper shell. Needs sliding windows since I’ll have dogs in the back. Would be great if it had a front slider as well so that my dog could stick their head through into the cab area if they want.

I have a 16 F150 Supercrew standard bed.

New LEER or other brand name ones seem to be in the $2500-3000 range and up and I just can’t fit that into my budget, but I do need the shell.

Anyone have one they are willing to part with, sell, or know where I can get one? Located in North GA.

TIA!

I'd suggest watching Craigslist. Toppers are kinda hard to sell because they're usually not worth shipping. So, when someone gets ready to trade a truck in or whatever, it can be hard to get rid of the toper.

BTW, you'll be fine with a topper meant to fit a 2015+ F150, as long as it's for your bed length. There's no such thing as "standard bed" - you have a 5.5' bed/145" wheelbase or 6.5' bed/157" wheelbase.

I’ve had a heck of a time looking for a shell for my 5.5’ bed locally. I’ve been checking Craigslist and Facebook Market place several times a day. I may just break down and buy one to get the features I want and color match.

They dont last long when being sold, I had a $1800 ARE on my last truck (Tundra) and I had three people after it in a day after listing.
Sold in three days.
Make sure to inspect for cracks!

Call the area dealer ships or just drive around to the dealerships when you see one stop and ask.

Sometimes there out back on a rack taking up space at the dealerships. That happens a lot around here.

Look at aluminum work caps. Never figured out why have a Aluminum truck to cut weight the throw on a heavy fiberglass cap.

All your looking for is happy dry dogs.

Neighbor has a 3 place aluminum dog carrier that slips in like a work box and sets on the bed rails.

Caps for 5.5's are pretty rare, because they a. only come on a Supercrew and b. that bed length is typically bought by people replacing an SUV who need a trunk for groceries, not a full topper. The 6.5s are more common in commercial type service where you see more toppers, plus that bed length is an option on the regular cab, supercab, and supercrew.

Because they look like crap... circa 1975.

Check facebook marketplace daily, and be ready to jump as soon as you see one. Used ones are well in demand, and they go fast. Use a couple different searches with separate keywords of; topper, shell, camper, cap, bed cover. All using the prefix F150. A lot of sellers aren’t necessarily truck people and aren’t familiar with the exact terminology used in different regions. And lots of used trucks are bought with them already installed, and they just want to unload them. Here in the midwest, most people call them “toppers“, but in some other regions, they’re commonly referred to as “caps”. The last couple of them I bought, were listed as “campers”.
