Default iPhone Sound

This may be an ignorant question, but does anyone know how to have the normal sounds come out of your iPhone (texting clicks, text notifications, turn by turn directions) while it is plugged in via USB?

My phone goes completely mute when I plug it in via the lightning cable. (iphone 6 plus)

Basically I just want to use that cable to charge it. I've tried turning off/on BT on my phone. No difference.

The USB plugs below the center stack charge but are designed to connect the phone to your SYNC system. Use the 12volt in your armrest console or on the dash - these only charge so phone will have normal sound functions.

I don't have my truck yet, but I'm pretty handy around gadgets.

If you can do that via USB, it quite likely only works from one USB port in the truck, not all of them. If the USB ports are only good for charging, you'll have to plug in to charge and pair the phone via bluetooth to hear the sounds.

The two USB ports in the console under the center stack are to connect device to SYNC - meaning, they charge but also direct all sounds, music, etc. through the SYNC system and truck speakers.

If you ONLY want to charge, you must use the 12 volt or 110 plugs for that.

So buy a usb adapter to plug into the 12V in the console? That kind of stinks b/c the ports under the radio charge perfectly fine...

2 USB ports under the radio. Both connect to sync and are able to play music from my phone. Problem is, I'd like my phone to act like it wasn't connected to anything (similar to being plugged into the wall) when I do not wish to use those ports to play music.. :/

wakerider017, you are correct on both accounts. The two USB ports are "live" and to my knowledge can't be made to ONLY charge. SYNC assumes if something is plugged in then you must want to play what is on that device. If you plug into the 12v located in the armrest you can still play music with BT audio connection, but must tell SYNC to connect each time you start the truck. This allows you more control....

if you swipe up from bottom of iphone for the shortcut menu that shows airplane mode, wifi, bluetooth, etc. At the bottom of that menu you should see AirPlay. Click on that and put the check mark next to iphone instead of Sync. That will put the normal sound through the iphone. However if the phone rings it will still pick up from the truck

Just search for lightning charge only cable. There are plenty of non-certified cables, cheap, available...
