Default IOLM Reset?

My truck is just over a year old build date 02/06/16 with 7972 miles The message Light for an oil change has not come on
Owners Manual states change oil after 1 year since last oil change.
My question is should I change oil now?
I have not change oil ever
Does the light come on after the Factory oil has been in use over a year?

Owners manual: "Do not exceed one year or 10000 miles (16000 kilometers) between service intervals." Change your oil. If you are sitting in Beltway traffic regularly, I would consider following the Severe Use recommendation.

Should I have my Dealer check the IOLM system because the Message didn't appear?
Does the clock for the oil change start at Build Date or when I started using the vehicle?

It's time to change it. I'm getting ready to change mine after 8000 easy miles even though the computer says I have 53% oil life remaining.

Build date is irrelevant. Your dealer would have prepped the vehicle, and should have reset it then. A year from when mileage started to accumulate.

Have you checked the life left on it (see your manual for how)?

How can you have 8,000 miles with 53% left? Makes no sense. Are you sure someone hasn't reset it at some point?

Which is another reason it isn't intelligent.

Seems as it's not even that great of a reminder.

I have no idea, I found it odd as well. Only other person to drive it was wife, I'll ask her if she messed around with it. Only thing I reset was fuel mileage.
