Default Intermittent vibration

I just bought a 2016 F-150 3.5 eco boost. It has 186k miles. I didn’t notice it until I had it for a few days but when I’m driving I get intermittent vibration. Passengers say it is stronger while sitting in the back seats. To best describe the way it feels I say it feels like going over a painted rumble strip. I can’t relate it to a certain speed. I don’t believe it’s related to a shift. I have an idea of what it could be but I wanted to see if others have experienced this and what the fix was.

Most refer to that as transmission shudder. Not every one experiences it. Most common at a specific speed range but the range is not the same on every vehicle. Common recomendation is to drop the transmission pan, change transmission fluid and filter. Many add something called shudder fixx to the fluid when they refill the transmission. Shudder Fixx is available at auto parts stores. If you search on this forum you should find other comments.

I'd start with a tire rotation and balance and maybe add an alignment. Rule out suspension, wheels and tires.

Thinking it’s rear differential. The vibration is more prominent toward the rear.

I will have that looked into but I’m pretty sure it’s nothing to do with the engine or transmission. I’m thinking drivetrain…. But I’ll post what I find out.

The good news (if there is such a thing) is you can pull the rear cover on the rear differential to see what is truly going on in there.
