Default i'm curious

in the 1930'a when countries chose their national color for racing Mercedes chose silver. they were producing aluminum alloy bodies and they elected to leave paint off their cars (affording them approx. 5lbs lighter weight) and simply polished the bare alum bodies (they were known as the "Silver Arrows"). my question is, since the new F150 are aluminum has anyone skipped the paint and simply polished the bare alum bodies? like an Airstream trailer. now this is just me, but i'm betting the result would be bitchin'.

You are assuming that the factory sheetmetal is perfect under the paint. It's not. Every truck on the road has some bodywork hidden under the paint.

John DeLorean did this, except it was stainless steel, not aluminum. Marty and Doc liked it!

It could be done with enough time and effort.

Go for it!!

If Henry Ford could do it 100 years ago, I don't see why someone could not do it today.

If it came out looking like that Airstream, it would look amazing.

I think it would look very cool Maybe a limited edition Raptor. I agree about the filling, I once stripped and polished a Mountain bike frame and found a lot of filler!
I have always wondered about people polishing their Trailers, It's my understanding that why Aluminum stops corroding is it seals itself off from Oxygen. What you are polishing off is the protective corrosion. You are encouraging corrosion unless you clear coat it somehow.
