Default Illegal front window tint

If I get my front windows tinted darker than what's legal how often would I get hassled about it? Mine are currently at the limit but I see other cars/trucks who's front tint is way darker than mine is now so I wonder if they often get stopped or is it something that's frequently overlooked? Anyone have any experience with this?

Rarely. Maybe by a newbie. And as long as you're not up to anything shady. If you're Joe Schmo you'd rarely get bugged. If ever.

I am not sure how anyone can answer this... Way too many variables.

I think they use it as a reason to pull you over, but only if they suspect you for something else. I come from a strict town; pulled over for illegal LEDs 2x, expired tags (sticker never came in, but had the receipt), but was never issued a ticket. When I move home my tint will be 27% while the legal is 35% and I'm not too worried.

I can tell you that the vast majority of officers don't have meters and if you were to get a citation you can get it tossed in court. I had 5% on my last truck. Got 2 tickets over 3 yeas for it, both got tossed. Cant make a guess when it comes to the law.

I've been running 20% front window tint for 5 years now, never had an issue.

As stated already, hard to tell based on the shear amount of variables, mostly depending on your area. If you live in a bad area, it's a reason to pull you over. If you live in a decent area then more then likely you will be fine. And if you do get pulled over, just be understanding. Dont be an *** cause it doesn't get you anywhere, and will result in a less then favorable outcome.

With all that said, I have 5% all the way around and never have issues.

I have never been ticketed or even asked about window tint when pulled over. I live close to SW Virginia and they will write you a ticket in a hurry for illegal tint. I also always drive with a radar detector so I avoid that state anyway.

Asking this question on this forum is like asking the world if you should go order pizza tonight, and if the pizza will be good.

So many generic false statements on here. Plenty of experienced police enforce window tint laws for no other reason than its a law, and they can and do enforce it without needing a tint meter.

If you really want an idea, ask as many people as you can that drive in your area with illegal tint, and then ask local law enforcement. You will have to ask each officer though.

I can't answer your question but I had a previous car at 10% and got pulled over once. He gave me a warning and asked me to get it fixed. I passed him several times in the following few weeks and he just waved. He sat in the same spot on a busy interstate in Ohio. My truck now has 5% back window and 18% on side as well as 50% windshield. Haven't been bothered yet.
