Default IDS Features

I was just curious I'm sure there are ford techs on here with access to IDS. I know there is aftermarket software to change certain parameters on their trucks but wondering what IDS offers for changes that can be made. When I had my Ranger there were a couple changes that could be made using Fords Diag software. Anyone played around with it?

Well 2 questions:

1.) Have you asked whomever you are borrowing it from?

2.) what do you want to change?

Yes it does. Sub enable. Change heated streering wheel to hot. You can upload as built data with it too. Plug it in and you will see.

The Ford IDS is what the tech's use for many things when diagnosing and repairing. They use it to update your PCM. Its very, very expensive. I personally can attest to the fact that the knock off I bought, did not work.

I happen to work at Ford and use it daily. I just haven't used it on too many 15-17 F150's yet and when I did use it, I didn't own a F150 yet so i didn't care to snoop around on it to see what it could do with these trucks.

They have training classes, yes. But they don't go over every vehicle and all the configurations. You have to take online classes first, then sign up for in classroom training and then be sent off to school. And the classes are more general learning like vibrations and harness, electrical, engine performance and so on. The salesman get the training that goes over all the features of the vehicle so they can train the customer. We are forced to figure it out on our own by going through workshop and electrical manuals. These manuals then tell us how certain operations are carried out and how they work.
