Ice stuck to inside of wheels
This is the first winter for my 2018 Lariat and I experienced something I never have before. When I was driving my truck home yesterday it began to shudder something awful which it had not done on my drive out. I stopped about a mile or two after first feeling it and noticed that I had ice stuck to the inside of my wheels which were causing them to be out of balance. I knocked it off and all was fine, but in my 40 years of driving I've never experienced that. I have the 20" sport wheels and the inside is flat and fairly wide so it's obviously possible for slush and such to settle there. Anyone else have this happen and if so any decent way to prevent it other than checking the wheels each time?
Happens multiple times a year to me around here. Especially if you drive in deep snow it gets in there and often causes major vibrations/shuddering.
Little less frequent is small amounts of snow get in and melt/freeze into lumps which also causes vibrations/shuddering.

Many years ago, I was driving a sports car in Colorado in winter. On a back road, we slid through a corner and ended up slightly off the road in a ditch of "mud". Eventually got pulled out by a big tractor after trying to get free, including holding the door open and looking backwards while in reverse. Bad idea, the "mud" came towards me and got the inside of the door too.
As we started to drive away, the steering wheel was bouncing 1/2 foot up and down. We stopped at a gas station at a small house (boonies) and used her bucket filled at the outside tap (hose was frozen), threw it against the wheel, and scraped the "mud" off with my frozen hands. Finally got it driveable.
When we stopped for food, we had "mud" everywhere. The kind waitress put us by ourselves in a closed section. We gradually warmed up, cleaned ourselves up, and ate.
As we drove the rest of the way home, the "mud" in the vehicle thawed out. That was messy too.
Oh, it wasn't mud. It was mud/cow manure mixed together. Smelled lovely. At home I took the car to a spray wash and left large clumps of cow manure all over the bay. Took a lot of quarters.

) and I used to have the same issue. Id get back on the highway and holy! I used to carry a hockey stick with me to clean out the frozen snow and ice in the wheels. Then about 4-5 years back I bought a set of American Racing ATX Teflon coated wheels and put on a nice set of snow peak rated AT tires for winter.Never had the problem since!

Plus size rims are also more susceptible to this as well.
