Default IA Key and tailgate

Is the tailgate suppose to unlock when you have the IA key in your pocket? It only opens if I either unlock the truck first, or double tap the remote, but since I have a topper, I have to raise the door on it first, so I never use it.

I don't think there is a proximity sensor in the tailgate.

My tailgate will unlock when I go to open it without unlocking the doors first.

Mine does too. The owners manual describes the operation. Page 70 if you have a 2017.

Well guess I was wrong. Credit to Ford for not only making a keyless entry/ignition system but including the tailgate.

It's common for this type system. Our Hyundai Santa Fe and the BMWs we've previously owned all work the same way.

Now if only you could wave your foot under it and it would pop open. Jk

So it should unlock by pressing the button if the key is in pocket? Guess I will have them check that when they repair the noisy noise dampener in the seat.

Well apparently it DOES unlock with the fob in the pocket with the doors locked. It worked for me today. There is either an issue with the prox sensor/module, or a loose connection.
