Hydraulic lifter
Hey guys
long time lurker first time poster. I have an 18’ 5.0 with 142k miles. Just had the phasers and chains replaced. Started it back up to realize I needed to do the lifters as well. I have two questions. 1) can I replace 1 lifter or do I need to do the whole bank? 2) do I have to replace the cam and if not do I have to remove the cam to replace the lifters?
Thanks

How are you determining which are the cause to justify any work?
A lot of work to keep taking things apart over again if the first time does not fix the issue.
Be careful, Cam shaft timing on re-assembly will get you again if not done correctly, for all the work involved each time.
Good luck..

My buddy is a ford tech down in Portland. When I gave him the original code and told him what was going on he came up and did the work on the phasers and timing chain. When he reassembled it and turned it on the first thing he said was he wished he would’ve had me turn it on so he could’ve heard it. Unfortunately he can’t keep coming up to work on my truck so I was curious if it was something that I myself could tackle being somewhat mechanical. Ford quoted me 4600 just to change the adjusters and I was hoping if it wasn’t to complicated I could tackle it. I just haven’t found a lot of solid DIY videos on it.
The tick it had for a long time is different from this one. I had a cam over retard code and when I would come to a stop after awhile and oil pressure was high the truck would die. This is what I believe starved it from getting oil up there and caused one or more of the adjusters go bad. Could be wrong but is definitely not the same tick I had. I’ll try to get a video later.

I would also question why he didn't think of that prior to doing any work?
If Im pulling heads/cams/topend... I would be checking everything to not have to do it a 2nd time.
