Default What makes a differential self-destruct? & How long is too long to wait for a part?

The front differential in my 2015 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew self-destructed on 12/22.

It's been at the dealer since 12/23, so coming up on two weeks (tomorrow). I acknowledge there've been a couple holidays in there.

But all I get from the dealer is that it's "In transit." He couldn't even tell if it was in transit from the mfg to Ford, or from Ford to the dealer. Apparently there's little visibility into the system (??).

I'm trying my damnedest to be patient, but I find myself getting more and more irked by how long this is taking. It could be in tomorrow. It might not be for (more) weeks.

Is there a run of bad differentials out there I'm not aware of, such that they're in short supply?

How long would you wait before starting to 'escalate' to Ford CS, or anyone else up the management chain?

================

Follow-on question -- what is a typical 'cause' for a (front) differential to self-destruct? I'd been driving in 4A in rainy conditions when it destroyed itself, but I've done that in the past many times with no ill effects. What's to say the 'new' differential won't have the same problem? Is the differential affected by outside sources? Or was this all 'internal?'

I wouldn't wait. In fact, the regional manager is aware of my issues prior to me taking the truck into the dealership, for any warranty related issues that may pop up. The regional manager seems to be able to speed up the process, or time it takes, for parts....at least that's what the dealership told me.

there is little visibility in the ordering system. Weve been told parts wont be in for 2 weeks only to have them show up 2 days later

the warranty says Ford has to repair your truck, it doesn't state how long it can / should take

hope you got a loaner...

No loaner. Luckily (?) I'm currently unemployed, so I haven't had to go anywhere that I couldn't 'borrow' my wife's MDX.

Sucks being a one-car family, but we're surviving.

I have been waiting for my fuel tank pressure sensor for almost a month. I posted a comment on the "shaking mirror" form that I was having the issue and when my part does come in I will have my dealer look at it. Within 24 hours the Ford Rep on here shot me a PM and started a file on my mirror. That day I called the dealer and they said the part wont be in until late January.

On the Dec 24th, the Ford Rep called me and said he has made sure it will be in much sooner then that.

Today I got a call that the part was in. AND they are already aware of my mirror..

So maybe one of the Ford Reps will chime in and can help move things along.

I have to have a new washer fluid motor. I was told yesterday that it was "direct ship" meaning anywhere from "1 day to 1 month." Lol. I have a 2015 F 150 by the way.

Most states that have lemon laws limit the time out of service to 30 days. So 30 days is definitely too long.

Why not get a loaner from the dealer? Put the miles on their truck while yours is waiting parts.
