I drilled a 1/2" hole along the door sill, toward the passenger kick panel area. If you pull your door sill covers off, you can follow the bodywork and find a spot where it starts to slope upward near the front of the door. There's nothing underneath this section, making it safe to drill without fear of damaging something else. There are small gaps on the underside of body that allow you to fish wires through after running them through the drilled hole. Use a 1/2"OD - 3/8"ID grommet to prevent fraying. After you fish your wires through, you'll be able to tuck them away and hide them along the underside of the truck.

Not to deviate too much from the thread but does anybody have these installed with factory fixed steps? Any night pics so I can see the light spread?

Didnt hurt the light brightness at all
Yep so far so good, puts out a good bit of light. The tape part is kinda difficult to apply, have to hold it tight for a bit to get it to stick, RTV is just added security.
So I'm tapped into the rear passenger side door kick panel right now. 2016 f150. It says purple wire is hot. Lights don't come on. Any one know of a guaranteed hot wire I can tap into with out having a meter?

Was this a better choice than tapping the power from the rear passenger door with the quick connectors that they have provided?

Use the positive lead on the white bulb from your cargo light (third brake light).

2016 f150.

Kick panel was actually very easy. I'm an Electrican so I'm used to black being hot wire. 😂 In this case red is hot black is neutral/ground.

Gray w/purple stripe goes to red wire

Big solid white wire goes to black wire

I'm glad I saw this thread. I was just looking at installing some lights above the power steps. I'll go the kick panel route, probably, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable tapping into a wire if I don't know what it does or where it goes. Those that have done it... do you have that info? You've used a relay to run the LED strips, correct?

Default Update... lemon law

Unfortunately I live in Illinois were the Lemon law is only good in the 1st year. I got Ford Service's attention by posting on a Ford 150 add on Facebook. Hopefully I will get some help. Dealership has been good, but they don't know what to do.
