So it uses the parking lights. Well I guess that would work. I would be leery of putting too much load on it though, the wiring for the lights is 18 gauge or lighter, and not meant to carry a heavy load. Might be good for a 400 watt inverter, but I wouldn't push beyond that.

I can confirm this won’t work on a 15+ truck. Currently working on wiring my own 12V outlet

Hi,
I've installed a 12 V outlet in the bed of my 2018 F150 and ran 10 G wire directly to the battery with inline 30 A fuse right off the battery lead. Grounded from 12V plug near hitch on frame. Outlet works for cell phone charger and other smaller devices. I installed the outlet to power our 12V cooler in the bed. I'm at a loss as to why it isn't working for the cooler or air pump, etc. The light on the plug turns on for the cooler, but as soon as i connect to the cooler, it goes out and does not turn on. I've tried various gauge wires and still nothing. Any help would be much appreciated! Could it be the Amazon outlet i used (not being able to handle the Amp of cooler?). This is outlet I used:

In reviews others have said they used as a 12 V outlet to power coolers. GRRRRR.
Thanks

ARB makes a nice 12V outlet for their overland fridge/freezer. Comes with everything you need from the battery to the outlet and it's actually well made.

I used West marine one. Partial to one made for wet environment. Not that that would hold up long to salt water in boat, nothing does. Yes, run.wire to my upfitter fuse box (or battery with fiuse) and ground to frame. Was not too bad too cut hole in aluminum. Can reach easily up from below and secure the plastic nut holding the socket tight. Just put wires through nut push through hole. Attach wires to socket. Put socket in hole tighten from back. Secure. Plate is just 2 screws. 6 years no issues.

I would check your ground and make sure it is good. I typically use a factory grounding point. They can be found in several places under the vehicle on the chassis. I terminate my wires with a loop lug snd place it on top of the factory ground using the same factory bolt. See if that helps, if not then I suspect inferior quality outlet

All of this, and if it fails, may need a thicker gauge wire.
